#259) Spirit-filled evangelizers means evangelizers fearlessly open to the working of the Holy Spirit. At Pentecost, the Spirit made the apostles go forth from themselves and turned them into heralds of God’s wondrous deeds, capable of speaking to each person in his or her own language. The Holy Spirit also grants the courage to proclaim the newness of the Gospel with boldness (parrhesía) in every time and place, even when it meets with opposition. Let us call upon him today, firmly rooted in prayer, for without prayer all our activity risks being fruitless and our message empty. Jesus wants evangelizers who proclaim the good news not only with words, but above all by a life transfigured by God’s presence.

#261) Whenever we say that something is “spirited,” it usually refers to some interior impulse which encourages, motivates, nourishes and gives meaning to our individual and communal activity. Spirit-filled evangelization is not the same as a set of tasks dutifully carried out despite one’s own personal inclinations and wishes. How I long to find the right words to stir up enthusiasm for a new chapter of evangelization full of fervor, joy, generosity, courage, boundless love and attraction! Yet I realize that no words of encouragement will be enough unless the fire of the Holy Spirit burns in our hearts. A spirit-filled evangelization is one guided by the Holy Spirit, for he is the soul of the Church called to proclaim the Gospel. Before offering some spiritual motivations and suggestions, I once more invoke the Holy Spirit. I implore him to come and renew the Church, to stir and impel her to go forth boldly to evangelize all peoples.

But most of all, because I offended You, oh my God, Who are all good and deserving of all my love. I firmly resolve, with the help of Your grace, to confess my sins, to do penance, and to amend my life. Amen.

Dearest Holy Mother, Most Holy Mary, you undo the knots that suffocate your children. Extend your merciful hands to me. I entrust to you today this knot [Mention your request here] and all the negative consequences that it provokes in my life. I give you this knot that torments me and makes me unhappy and so impedes me from uniting myself to you and your Son Jesus, my Savior. Virgin Mary, Mother of fair love, Mother who never refuses to come to the aid of a child in need, Mother whose hands never cease to serve your beloved children because they are moved by the divine love and immense mercy that exists in your heart, cast your compassionate eyes upon me and see the snarl of knots that exist in my life. You know very well how desperate I am, my pain, and how I am bound by these knots.

Many times I lose the graces you grant me because of my sins of egoism, pride, rancor and my lack of generosity and humility. I turn to you today, Mary, Undoer of Knots, for you to ask your Son Jesus to grant me a pure, divested, humble and trusting heart. I will live today practicing these virtues and offering you this as a sign of my love for you. Mother, Undoer of Knots, generous and compassionate, I come to you today to once again entrust this knot [Mention your request here] in my life to you and to ask the divine wisdom to undo, under the light of the Holy Spirit, this snarl of problems. No one ever saw you angry; to the contrary, your words were so charged with sweetness that the Holy Spirit was manifested on your lips. Take away from me the bitterness, anger, and hatred which this knot has caused me. Give me, O dearest Mother, some of the sweetness and wisdom that is all silently reflected in your heart. Eternal Father, LORD of hosts, we confidently cry out to You in the Name of Your Son Jesus, who ministered to all who came to Him in faith.

With the powerful intercessions of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Mother of God, St. Michael the Archangel, St. John Paul II, St. Catharine of Siena, St. Teresa of Avila, Venerable Matt Talbot (who triumphed over addiction), and all the saints and angels of heaven, we cry out for __________, and for all Your children who are bound by the chains of alcoholism or drug addiction.

Enfold them in Your love; restore them to freedom through Your grace. Give them graces of true repentance and conversion to Your Son Jesus. Transform them by the power of the Holy Spirit. And bless them with Your peace. Amen.

WINNING THE BATTLE FOR THE MIND

Sometimes, the enemy attacks me early in the morning before I am fully awake. Thoughts of sexual fantasy suddenly invade my dreams. (I have been living a celibate life since 1995.) It is temptation when I am most vulnerable. And I am often aware that I am being protected -- that a spiritual battle is being fought over me.

But I do have free will; and sometimes, though not fully awake, I fall into the trap -- the sin of sexual fantasy. One morning, God gave me a prayer to fight off these attacks:

Lord Jesus,

I plead Your Most Precious Blood 

on my mind.

Lord Jesus,

I plead Your Most Precious Blood

on every thought in my mind.

Amen.

Use this prayer when you are being harassed by impure thoughts… when you are attacked with strong temptation… when you are tempted to commit sin.

Use this prayer when thoughts distract you during Holy Mass… when thoughts interfere with your prayer life.

Use this prayer when your thoughts become confused… when thoughts torment you during the night, preventing a good sleep.

Use this prayer when you are haunted by past sins -- sins that have already been confessed in the Sacrament of Reconciliation.

Use this prayer when you have thoughts that tear you down, accuse you of anything… and cause you to question your self-worth.

Use this prayer when you are afflicted with depressive or obsessive-compulsive thoughts.

Use this prayer when your thoughts are “out of control” … when your thoughts are not your own.

ORIGINAL PRAYER TO ST. MICHAEL THE ARCHANGEL

VISION OF POPE LEO XIII

One day, after celebrating Mass, the aged Pope Leo XIII was in conference with the Cardinals when suddenly he sank to the floor in a deep swoon. Physicians who hastened to his side could find no trace of his pulse and feared that he had expired. However, after a short interval the Holy Father regained consciousness and exclaimed with great emotion: “Oh, what a horrible picture I have been permitted to see!”

He had been shown a vision of evil spirits who had been released from Hell and their efforts to destroy the Church. But in the midst of the horror the Archangel St. Michael appeared and cast Satan and his legions into the abyss of hell. Soon afterwards Pope Leo XIII composed the following prayer to Saint Michael.

PRAYER TO ST. MICHAEL THE ARCHANGEL

(The Original Version)

“O Glorious Prince of the heavenly host, St. Michael the Archangel, defend us in the battle and in the terrible warfare that we are waging against the principalities and powers, against the rulers of this world of darkness, against the evil spirits. Come to the aid of man, whom Almighty God created immortal, made in His own image and likeness, and redeemed at a great price from the tyranny of Satan.

Fight this day the battle of the Lord, together with the holy angels, as already thou hast fought the leader of the proud angels, Lucifer, and his apostate host, who were powerless to resist thee, nor was there place for them any longer in Heaven. That cruel, ancient serpent, who is called the devil or Satan who seduces the whole world, was cast into the abyss with his angels. Behold, this primeval enemy and slayer of men has taken courage. Transformed into an angel of light, he wanders about with all the multitude of wicked spirits, invading the earth in order to blot out the name of God and of His Christ, to seize upon, slay and cast into eternal perdition souls destined for the crown of eternal glory. These most crafty enemies have filled and inebriated with gall and bitterness the Church, the spouse of the immaculate Lamb, and have laid impious hands on her most sacred possessions. In the Holy Place itself, where the See of Holy Peter and the Chair of Truth has been set up as the light of the world, they have raised the throne of their abominable impiety, with the iniquitous design that when the Pastor has been struck, the sheep may be.

Arise then, O invincible Prince, bring help against the attacks of the lost spirits to the people of God, and give them the victory. They venerate thee as their protector and patron; in thee holy Church glories as her defense against the malicious power of hell; to thee has God entrusted the souls of men to be established in heavenly beatitude. Oh, pray to the God of peace that He may put Satan under our feet, so far conquered that he may no longer be able to hold men in captivity and harm the Church. Offer our prayers in the sight of the Most High, so that they may quickly find mercy in the sight of the Lord; and vanquishing the dragon, the ancient serpent, who is the devil and Satan, do thou again make him captive in the abyss, that he may no longer seduce the nations. Amen.

O God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, we call upon Thy holy Name, and as supplicants, we implore Thy clemency, that by the intercession of Mary, ever Virgin Immaculate and our Mother, and of the glorious St. Michael the Archangel, Thou wouldst deign to help us against Satan and all the other unclean spirits who wander about the world for the injury of the human race and the ruin of souls. POWER OF THE BLESSING

London, England (Spring 2011) _ A “40 Days for Life” vigil site came under attack by pro-choice, anti-Christian hecklers:

“You are just wasting your time.

There is no God!”

 

“You hypocrites, what about
the millions of starving children around the world?”

 

“Why aren’t you praying for

the 20,000 back-street abortions

that take place in Pakistan?”

 

“I know all about your fabricated propaganda.
I don’t need to read any more about it!”

 

“I don’t NEED your prayers, thank you.

I don’t BELIEVE in your evil God!”

Evil spirits often speak, rant and rave through people. The good news is that we have the power to silence them. When these spiritual attacks occur, immediately respond with a blessing: 

“Lord Jesus, please bless this person / 

these people.”

“Lord Jesus, please bless everyone

in this house.”

If you do this, you will notice a change. The blessing will drive the evil spirits away, and the person/people will become quiet. (It may take a few moments for the person/people to calm down, but you will have defused the situation.) Evil spirits cause people to behave badly... But when we bless these people -- when we bless those who curse us -- deliverance occurs. 

One day while helping a friend tear down a poorly constructed addition to a house, we heard the mother and daughter inside screaming at one another. I said a simple prayer: “Lord Jesus, please bless everyone in this house.” And within moments, it was quiet. The fighting stopped.

Therefore… Respond with a blessing!

And see what God does.

This will prevent the enemy from using others against you! 

When I remember to practice this, the people I meet are kind, helpful, friendly… But when I fail to practice this, something unpleasant usually happens. Evil spirits cause people to behave badly.

This will prevent the enemy from
interfering with your conversation! 

Remember: Evil spirits cause confusion,
misunderstandings, arguments… 

But you can protect yourself.

PRAYER TO OUR LADY, QUEEN OF THE ANGELS

In 1863, a Bernardine Sister was shown in spirit the vast desolation caused by the Devil throughout the world. At the same time, she heard the Blessed Virgin Mary telling her it was true. Hell had been let loose upon the earth. The time had come to pray to her as “Queen of the Angels” and to ask of her the assistance of the Heavenly Legions to fight against these deadly foes of God and men.

Our Lady communicated the following prayer (approved by the Church). A person who says this prayer receives a 300 day indulgence. _ Catholic Online
